New Zealand's veteran batsman Ross Taylor hit the ton as he warmed up tightly for the three-match One-Day International series against India starting on Sunday with a roasting hundred against the Indian Board President's XI in the second side game at the Cricket Club of India on Thursday.

The 82 ball 102 runs that Taylor scored and Tom Latham's 97 scored and Tom Latham's 97 runs off 108 balls saw the visitors settling scores with the India hopefuls after having lost the tour opener by 30 runs on Tuesday. Thanks mainly to Taylor's pyrotechnics on Diwali, the Black Caps amassed 343 for 7 against BP XI.

The swing endangered to come off quickly for the BP XI getting into the chase and it was only some derring-do by pacer Jaydev Unadkat at the end who reduce a margin of defeat to 33 runs. While Kiwis 33-year-old Taylor, who had a burning tour of India last year and has no team to call his own in the Indian Premier League despite being one of the cleanest hitters in the game, looked comfortable against the spinners. Taylor hit leg-spinner Karn Sharma for five boundaries and pinched a four off left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem. Latham, in a new position as wicketkeeper-batsman, not only scored a hundred in unforgiving conditions but also kept wickets till the very end in a match which makes easy for Kiwis bowling line up for the win.
