Actor Akshay Kumar won the Best Actor award, Sonam Kapoor bagged Special Mention for Neerja.

Zaira Wasim won the Best Supporting Actress award. Surabhi Lakshmi for film Minnaminingu won the Best Actress Award in the 64th National Film Awards.

The filmmaker Priyadarshan was the chairman of 64th National Film Awards revealed that it was a tough choice between Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for Sarabjit and Surabhi Lakshmi.

Filmmaker Priyadarshan stated: "For the Best Actress Award, more than the body of work the performance was considered. Also, there weren't many actresses who were part of a lot of films and put up great performances. Surabhi's only competition was with Aishwarya Rai for Sarabjit. Surabhi clinched the award as she brilliantly performed her role of a non-glamourous Indian woman and carried the film on her shoulders."

The filmmaker also said: "Some of the films that didn't get commercial recognition was made well and some that weren't made well had good content. We looked at movies that had good content and was made well."

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra's production film Ventilator won three awards for Best Editing, Best Director, Best sound mixing.
