Former actress and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt in 2014 announced her divorce with husband of 11 years Manish Makhija in her Twitter post, "To all those who care & especially those that don't my husband Munna & Me have decided to part ways after 11 glorious years of marriage."

Pooja stated, "Our split as some might call it is amicable & we hold each other in the highest esteem for now and forever."

"The reason I explain Is because we are both part of the public domain. Our friends,well wishers & foes are free to now speculate. : )," the filmmaker said.

Pooja added, "Staggered by the love & support displayed by intimate strangers as well as the silence from most of my friends! Love you all!" About her divorce, she said, "You know, we never really got divorced on paper."

Pooja concluded, "I don't believe that a piece of paper can decide your relationship status. We made a choice to get married, to stay together, to end our marriage and to remain friends. We had no obligations in our relationship other than when you hold each other's hand, you never let go of it. You need not live in the same room for that."
