In the New Zealand Open Grand Prix Gold the Indian shuttlers HS Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap advanced to the second round after winning their respective opening rounds of the men's singles event yesterday.
Prannoy defeated Indonesia's Shesar Hiren Rhustavito by 21-14, 21-16 in a match that lasted for 36 minutes While Kashyap beat Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia by 21-5, 21-10 in a match that lasted for 22 minutes.
Ajay Jayaram, another Indian in the fray, suffered a major setback as he got knocked out of the ongoing tournament after going down in straight games against Chia Hung Lu of Chinese Taipei.
