Reports from Rajya Sabha TV have confirmed that Mayawati resignation has been accepted by the Rajya Sabha.

Yesterday, news broke out that her resignation might not get accepted on technical grounds as she had also provided an explanation for her resignation, which is in contravention of the rules of the House.

The BSP Supremo had resigned on Tuesday as Deputy chairman P J Kurien permitted her to speak, but only for three minutes. Later Mr. Kurien had said the episode was a result of a "misunderstanding" and that he has "utmost respect" for the BSP leader.

"None of us are happy about her resigning. I have utmost respect for her. It was just a misunderstanding. We all have a lot of respect for her and regard her as a senior leader. The House will ask her to reconsider her decision," Kurien had said.

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad has come out in support of Mayawati and offered to send her to the Upper House from Bihar. "If Mayawati wishes, we will send her to Rajya Sabha from Bihar," the RJD president whose party has 80 MLAs in 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly said.
