The Indian team, which won three Test matches in a series on foreign soil only once in its 85 years of Test history, is now repeating this achievement in the current Test series against Sri Lanka not only after almost 50 years but for the first time abroad have a great chance to win three Test matches.
The team led by Virat Kohli won the first two matches of the three-Test series against Sri Lanka easily and if he retains his winning campaign in the third and final Test starting in Pallikal on 12th August then this will be the first time that the Indian team will clean sweep in the series of three Tests on foreign soil.
India had won only three Tests in a series on the overseas ground only once before when the team was led by Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi defeated New Zealand 3-1 in the series of four Tests in February-March 1968.
In the current series, India defeated Sri Lanka by 304 runs in the first Test match in Galle and defeated by innings and 53 runs in the second Test in Colombo. If Given the best performance, the Indian team will also emerge as the strongest contender for the win in Pallikal.
India has never played a Test match in Pallikal before, whereas Sri Lanka has played in five Tests played here, lost one and won one while the other three were drawn. India played one ODI and one T20 match in Pallikal and won both of them.
