The Kerala High Court on Thursday apprehended that all inter-religious weddings cannot have an observation as 'love jihad' as it supported a marriage between a Hindu woman and a Muslim man.

A division bench encompasses justices V Chitambaresh and Sathish Ninan prepared the remarks in its verdict on a habeas corpus petition filed by the man. A habeas corpus plea is filed to make sure a person under arrest is brought before a court which will decide whether the imprisonment is legal.

"We are appalled to notice the current trend in this state to embellish every case of inter-religious marriage as either 'love jihad' or 'ghar wapsi' even if there was pious love between the husband-wife before," the court said.

The bench also mentioned the Supreme Court order in the Lata Singh versus state of Uttar Pradesh case of 2004 to give emphasis to the need for heartening inter-caste and inter-religious marriages.

"We have to care that every case of inter-religious marriage shall not be portrayed on a religious canvass and make fissures in the communal harmony or else existing in the God's Own Country - Kerala," the bench told and upheld the marriage.

It is supposed that present case was likely to the parents of the woman as 'love jihad' whereas the man, who was in love with her and married her later, termed it as 'Ghar wapsi' (a bid to pressurize her to come back).
