The Delhi government is planning to start the nursery admissions process for 2018 a year in advance. This is going to be done so that officials and schools get ample time to make the guidelines and rules before the application process starts. A government official mentioned that the whole admission process will be done online and also to make it centralized. The schools are asked to decide their admission criteria in the beginning of the year and update the Delhi Government  in April. After this the government will encode the schools based on their location, and will make a centralised application process which is transparent.

Generally most of the schools are allowed to decide the criteria on the basis of which the will admit the students provided that the criteria are non-discriminatory. The  nursery admissions process in Delhi is regulated by the government to an extent.

According to the clause of land allotment letter this year, the government ordered 293 private unaided schools built on government land to give priority to children who live within a 1-6 km radius of the school during admission.

The most common criteria decided by the schools are distance from school (neighbourhood), sibling studying in the same school, parents being alumni, and girl child/first child. The other 1,400 schools are free to decide their own criteria.

In the new plan each school’s criteria will be encoded separately. Neighbourhood points and criteria will be decided based on the GPS location of the school.

This plan will be very beneficial to the parents as they will not have to fill out multiple forms and run from one school to another.
