It is important to take care of your baby’s gums even before your baby’s teeth appear. Bacteria in the mouth usually cannot harm the gums before the teeth appear, but it will be hard to tell when the teeth are starting to push through, so you’ll want to start early.
Caring for your baby’s gums
This does not involve toothbrush or toothpaste, just follow these simple steps
Wipe your baby’s gums with a soft wet cloth.
Wipe after feedings , during bath and before bedtime.
Clean atleast twice a day
Brushing baby’s teeth
When your baby’s first teeth start to pop up, transfer to a toothbrush, one with a soft brush, small head and large handle. Brush twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime. Use a tiny amount of fluoride toothpaste. Brush gently on the inside and outside, as well as the tongue.
Baby’s first dentist visit
Take your child to the dentist within six months after her first tooth erupts, or by her first birthday.
Teething
By the time your child is about 2.5 years old, he or she will have all 20 primary teeth. Some babies are fussier than usual when they are teething. This may be because of soreness and swelling in the gums. Babies may bite on their fingers or toys to help relieve the pressure in their gums. They may also refuse to eat and drink because their mouths hurt.
Help your baby feel comfortable while teething
Use a clean finger to rub your baby’s tongue.
Use teething rings.
