A virus called human papilloma virus (HPV) almost causes all the cases of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer may require various treatment approaches, depending on its cause and whether it has metastasized beyond the cervix.
Signs and symptoms of cervical cancer
The signs and symptoms could be an unusual discharge from the vagina, the discharge may contain some blood and may occur between your periods or after menopause. Abnormal vaginal bleeding, such as bleeding after sex, bleeding after menopause, and having longer or heavier periods than usual. Bleeding after douching, or after a pelvic exam is a common symptom of cervical cancer but not pre-cancer. These signs and symptoms can also be caused by conditions other than cervical cancer. For example, an infection can cause pain or bleeding. Still, if you have any of these problems, you should see your health care professional right away
Treatment of cervical cancer
If caught at an early stage, treatment consists of removing the cancer cells through surgery. Some women might have to remove the entire uterus. To destroy the cancer cells, radiation and chemotherapy are used. If the cancer is present throughout the cervix, several treatments may be required. A hysterectomy is often performed and some may have to undergo a radical hysterectomy. Yoga, meditation, healthy diet and exercise can help patients cope with the disease.
