NAGPUR/RAJKOT: Middle order batsman Aditya Tare (19) and Shreyas Iyer's (24) tedious knock save day for defending champion Mumbai in the first semifinal against Tamil Nadu as duo added 43 runs for fourth wicket after top four batsmen returned to pavilion adding just 128 runs on scoreboard.

Defending champions Mumbai reached 171/4, still trailing by 134 runs, on the second day of the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Monday.

Earlier in the morning session, resuming overnight score at 261/6, Tamil Nadu were bowled out for 305 in 116 overs. Middle-order batsman Shankar scored 50 runs in 139 balls and Crist scored 31 runs to give their team a decent total. Apart from them no other lower order batsman could add much to the score. For Mumbai, Shardul Thakur and Abhishek Nayar took four wickets each.

In the second semifinal between Gujarat and Jharkhand being played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Ground in Nagpur, Jharkhand reached 214 for five in their first innings after bowling Gujarat out for 390.

Resuming the day on a strong position of 283/3, Gujarat were bowled out after adding only 107 runs in their first innings as medium-pacers Ajay Yadav (3-67) and Rahul Shukla (3-71) picked wickets at regular intervals.

Jharkhand, in their reply, were left ruing absence of a big partnership as Pratyush Singh (27), Virat Singh (34), Saurabh Tiwary (39) and Ishan Kishan (61) couldn't convert their good starts into big knocks. With still three left, both the matches are evenly poised.
