Former Indian Cricket Team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, after stepping down from the Indian ODI captaincy, halted the IPL captaincy too. Long time captain will now no more lead the Rising Pune Supergiants. 

Australian captain Steven Smith took the Pune squad's captaincy in his hands and now the team will experience the new skipper. This is the not only change came into being in Pune franchise, but also team changed its name.

Now Rising Pune Supergiants is Rising Pune Supergiant. The spokesperson said in a statement, "Last year we were looking at four to five players in the squad who had super giant abilities. While we were preparing for this IPL, we thought why just a few players, the entire team is Supergiant. So, that is why we decided to go with Supergiant this time."
