Vaccines not only help keep your child healthy, they help all children by stamping out serious childhood diseases. The protection provided by vaccines far outweighs the very small risk of serious problems.

Here are some vaccines that help protect against potentially life-threatening germs.

Hepatitis B

This vaccine protects against an incurable, liver-infecting virus, hepatitis B, which can be passed to a baby during childbirth if the mother is infected.  Make sure your newborn gets this vaccine before leaving the hospital and next vaccine between 1 to 2 months and then 6 to 18 months.

DTaP

This vaccine protects against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis. Your child requires to take five vaccine doses starting at 2 months, then 4 months, 6months, 15 to 18 months and between 4 to 6 years. Boosters at age 11 or 12, and then every 10 years.

MMR

This vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella. This vaccine is given at 12 to 15 months and again between 4 to 6 years.

Chickenpox

This vaccine protects against a highly contagious rash and should be given to children at 12 to 15 months and again between 4 to 6 years.

Polio

This vaccine reduces the cases of polio and should be given to your child at 2 months, 4 months, between 6 to 18 months and again between 4 to 6 years.

Rotavirus

This vaccine protects against diarrhea and vomiting in young kids and is given at 2 months and 4 months of age.
