Raipur: In Chhattisgarh, 10 Naxals put up their arms on Thursday in the most Naxal-affected Dantewada district. According to Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava, a reward of Rs 8 lakh was announced on the head of Baman Sori also named as Durghesh (28), one of the surrendered Naxalites. These members of the Naxal cadre active in southern Bastar surrendered in the presence of Collector Deepak Soni, police and CRPF officers of Dantewada. According to SP Abhishek, they were all visibly depressed by the "hollow Maoist ideology." The Naxalites also admitted that the recent surrender of their colleagues under the Lawn Wartu (return home) campaign launched by the district police has also motivated them to leave the violence and put up arms. He said that the surrendered Naxalites have been given financial assistance of Rs. 10-10 thousand and all facilities will be provided to them under the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the government. The superintendent of police further said that Baman Sori is the number 2 in the Gangalur Area Committee of the Maoist group and is considered to be a very dreaded Naxalite. He has been involved in dozens of attacks in the neighbourhood of Bijapur district. These include the Pamulvia attack in 2007, in which six security force Jawans had received martyred.
