Myanmar: Furious protests against military rule 138 protesters killed so far

Geneva: At least 138 protesters have been killed so far in violence since a February military coup in Myanmar, according to a REPORT by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). This was stated by United Nations (UN) spokesman Stephane Dujarric during a press briefing on Monday.

"According to the UN Human Rights Office, at least 138 protestors have been killed in violence in Myanmar since February, including women and children," Dujarric said. The spokesman informed that 38 people were killed in the violence that took place only on Sunday. The violence took place in the Haling Thaer area of Yangon. UN Secretary-General Antonié Guterres has strongly condemned the violence against people protesting peacefully in Myanmar and termed it as a violation of human rights.

Guterres has appealed to the international community, including Myanmar's neighboring countries, to demonstrate solidarity with the people of Myanmar and their democratic rights. All the member countries of the UN Security Council (UNSC) also issued a statement last week strongly condemning the army's action in Myanmar.
