Thane: The number of people who died in the accident of falling of a three-storey building in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra has increased to 17 on Tuesday. While giving information to the media, the police said that four more bodies were recovered during the overnight relief and rescue operation. He said that eight children were among those who died. The body of 15-year-old Afsana Ansari has been recovered from the debris at night. Police said that 23 people have been rescued from the debris. Two women were pulled out of the debris last night. The official said that the 43-year-old building named Jilani had collapsed at 3.40 am on Monday. The building had 40 flats and around 150 people lived here. Bhiwandi is located about 10 kilometers from Thane. He said that two municipal officials have been suspended in the case of building collapse and a case has been registered against the owner of the building. People living in it were sleeping when the building located at Patel Compound in Narpoli near Dhamankar Naka. He said that personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) are present on the spot and the search operation is on. He said that this building was not included in the list of dilapidated buildings of Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation.
