Srinagar: Two Army personnel were martyred during an encounter at Chermarg in the Jainpora area of Shopian district in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. According to the Kashmir Zone Police, the deceased armed forces personnel have been identified as Santosh Yadav and Chavan Romit Tanaji, both from one Rashtriya Rifles (RR). Police said both army personnel were martyred when they were shot at around 9.30 am. In Jammu and Kashmir, a terrorist has also been killed in an encounter in the highly sensitive Shopian district on Saturday. Officials said here that following intelligence inputs that militants were hiding in Chermarg of Jainapura area in Shopian, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation there. He said that when the security forces were carrying out a search operation in the area, the terrorists hiding there opened fire on them. The security forces also retaliated, following which two Army jawans were martyred in the encounter. He said security forces have also killed a terrorist. The identity of the dead terrorist is yet to be ascertained.
