Puri: 11 people were killed and about 30 injured in various road accidents in Odisha. A senior official said a coal-laden truck hit a bus from behind in the Balasore district, killing six people and injuring 25 others. In another accident, an SUV and a truck collided in the Suvarnapur district. 5 persons lost their lives and 5 others were injured. In the first incident, six persons, including a one-year-old girl and her parents, were killed. All of them were on their way to Bhubaneswar from Manatri in the Mayurbhanj district. It was because of this that a truck full of coal was hit on NH-16 in Soros. The bus was on its way to Bhubaneswar from 'Shantilata' Udala. At 1.10 pm it stopped near Bidu Chak on NH-16 to offer people when a truck full of coal hit them from behind. The collision was so severe that both the bus and the truck fell into the ditch from the road. Three persons died on the spot in the accident. While three others died due to treatment. Dilip Chaudhary, the owner of the bus, said that the health condition of 6 other persons has been stated to be critical. At least a dozen passengers on board the bus were injured, while the condition of the driver and assistant of the truck is said to be critical. Expressing grief over the incident, CM Naveen Patnaik has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of each of the deceased. He also directed the officers to ensure that the injured got better medical facilities. The second incident is in Sonepur. Where an SUV and a truck collided on a bridge of the Mahanadi river. Five persons including the father and daughter who were returning after attending the groom's party were killed and five others were seriously injured.
