NEW DELHI: This year's (2023) World Environment Day will be observed with a focus on the Mission LiFE, said the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the idea of LiFE, or Lifestyle for the Environment, at the world leaders' summit in Glasgow during the UNFCCC COP26 in 2021, when he issued a clarion call to rekindle a global pursuit to adopt a sustainable lifestyle and practises. In preparation for the celebrations, a nationwide mobilisation on LIFE is being planned. Meenakshi Karawal, Associate Professor, KIET Group of Institutions, Ghaziabad, gave a powerpoint presentation on waste management, a demonstration, and an interactive session as part of the Mass Mobilisation for Mission LiFE on waste reduced (swachhata actions) to bring behavioural changes among the masses, which was launched by the National Museum of Natural History in partnership with the National Zoological Park. Additionally, the participants agreed to implement the LiFE steps. Regional Natural History Museum On May 5, as part of Mission LIFE for students and the general public, the National Museum of National History (NMNH) in Mysore and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) held a mask-making session and underlined the importance of living sustainably and making a green pledge. In partnership with NMNH and MOEFCC, the Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History in Sawai Madhopur held a Mission LiFE orientation and a green discussion on water pollution, water conservation, the value of the marine eco system, and climate change. On Friday, 478 students, visitors, and members of the general public actively engaged in the exhibition on water conservation, the marine eco-system: ocean life, and climate change: learn with fun while also enjoying film screenings and a selfie zone. Dhriti Banerjee, Director, ZSI spoke virtually to over 100 energetic and youthful participants as part of the mass mobilisation for Mission LiFE on "Save Water" and "Say no to Plastics" to raise awareness among youth. The popular mobilisation for Mission LiFE was started by the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Chennai, through a "Signature Campaign" and "Green Pledge" of LiFE practises. This activity was a part of the World Bank Workshop on "Hydromet Service for Coastal, Agricultural, and Urban Resilience and Early Warning", which aims to learn from the best practises in coastal resilience. Government representatives from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh took part in this event and presented their knowledge of sustainable agricultural methods and coastline management. Celebrated on 5 June 2023, World Environment Day is an occasion that brings together millions of people across the country for awareness and action for the environment.
