'22 percent decline in crime rate of State', claims Chief Minister Biplab Deb

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Friday has claimed that the crime rate of the state has declined by 22 per cent in last one year.

While attending a Police Week programme, the CM said that the total crime cases reported in the state during 2019 were 5988. But during 2020 it came down to 4653. The crime rate has decreased by 22 per cent. The decline in crime rate means that the overall law and order situation in Tripura is satisfactory. While speaking on women safety in Tripura, the CM said that the graph of crime against women has also seen a sharp downfall of 15.4% per cent in 2020 compared to that of the previous year. In the year 2019, Tripura reported a total of 195 rape cases. However, in the year 2020, cases of rapes have come down to 165.

The state of the CM comes amidst heavy criticism of the BJP-led State Government from the opposition parties in the State – the CPI-M and the Congress. The opposition parties have been raising concerns over the present law and order situation in Tripura.
