On this day in 1980, Sanjay Gandhi was killed in a plane crash, the political equations of India had changed

New Delhi: June 23 is recorded as a day in the political history of India, when all the equations suddenly changed. Former PM Indira Gandhi's younger son Sanjay Gandhi died on the same day in a plane crash. Sanjay was seen as the successor of Indira Gandhi, but with his sudden departure, all the equations in the country's politics changed.

Sanjay Gandhi was among the most favorite leaders of the 70s. It is said that his impression could be seen in many important decisions of Indira Gandhi. However, he also had an old relationship with controversies. On the morning of 23 June 1980, Sanjay Gandhi flew with the Instructor of the Delhi Flying Club, but his plane succumbed to his accident and died.

The date of June 23 has also been witness to another plane crash. On June 23, 1985, Air India passenger plane fell into the air crash near the coast of Ireland and all 329 passengers aboard the aircraft were tragically killed. The plane was just 45 minutes away from its destination Heathrow Airport at the time of the accident.
