Chandigarh: Locals in Haryana's Jhajjar are on the streets against wrestler Bajrang Punia. They says that Poonia has been allotted 4 acres of land in Bhapdauda village here. Bajrang Punia has taken this 4 acres of land from the government in the name of making 'Wrestlers Academy'. Now the local people are opposing it. Notable wrestler Punia won a bronze medal in the 2020 Olympic Games held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, but he has been staging a sit-in with wrestlers at Jantar Mantar for some time now. According to the report, the villagers opposing Bajrang Punia say that this land has been allotted illegally. They also claimed that the 'Panchayat Samiti' is also involved in this illegal allotment. The villagers say that apart from the 'Arjuna Award' winners, there are already many players in the village who have played at the international level, but despite this land was given to Bajrang Punia. Actually, the Panchayat Secretary here represents the government. Villagers say that the Panchayat Secretary is also involved in this illegal allotment of land. The villagers demand that a detailed inquiry should be conducted into this allotment of land, that too within a week. They has also talked about complaining about this to Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar. Along with this, it has also been said to go from the High Court to the Supreme Court if necessary. They said that under no circumstances would he be allowed to set up a wrestler's academy here. Not only this, a member of the Gram Panchayat has also alleged fraud in the allotment of land. They says that the meeting was called on some other issue, but everyone was asked to sign some papers. They told that it was the allotment paper of 4 acres of land to Bajrang Poonia, after reading which they refused to sign. Whereas, Bajrang Punia had asked for 5 acres of land. The Panchayat member further said that when they discussed this with their seniors, they were very happy. The villagers were told that their children would get free training in this wrestler's academy, so they agreed. He told that, another big thing is that this land belongs to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, which is used for agricultural work. It is being told that these Dalit families earn their livelihood from the same land, in which case their condition will become pathetic. However, the legal seal on the allotment of land is yet to come. Pramod, the representative of the Sarpanch of the village, has also been accused. It is being said that the Sarpanch has done this due to personal relations. A complaint has been lodged with the district administration. One Panch alleged that the rights of Dalits were being killed. The District Appropriate Officer also informed that the people of Bhapdauda village had approached him with a complaint. The truth of the whole matter would come out after the investigation.
