Amritsar: Tensions between the Nihang community and the local Christian brotherhood have recently returned as a result of Nihangs attacking a church in Amritsar. The Nihangs broke into the church during a time of prayer, destroyed the Bible, and harmed Christian-owned vehicles. However, the police's quick response and intervention helped to manage the situation.
At the Rajewal village church in Amritsar, the incident took place during a Sunday worship service. Nihangs attacked the church by breaking in forcibly, damaging property, and disrespecting the Bible, which is the sacred book of Christians. The Nihangs displayed swords as the conflict heated up, inciting the Christian adherents to respond by throwing bricks and stones in return. The Nihangs then took off from the area.
The fact that Nihang organisations have voiced their opposition to people dressing up as Sikhs to spread propaganda suggests that this incident may have been inspired by such behaviour.
Sports Hub Project collapses after 7 Years of Inaction, Jalandhar Demands Answers
Following the incident, the Christian community responded angrily and asked that the offenders be brought to justice. They demanded that Sections 295A, which handles the sacrilege of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, and 307, which addresses acts that risk life or cause great bodily injury, be applied. The appeal from the Christian community emphasises how serious the incident was and how much they want justice.
SSP Rural Satinder Singh promptly arrived on the site to ease the tension and answer the worries of the Christians. The Christian community was relieved of their resentment and frustration when he promised that a thorough investigation would be carried out.
