Mumbai: Mumbai witnessed a sharp increase in black fungus cases. However, cases of this infection have registered a decline of 56 percent in about a month. Let me tell all of you that at present 169 active patients of black fungus are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the city. According to reports, there are some patients who were undergoing treatment in private hospitals but due to the high cost of treatment, patients have shifted to NMC hospitals. In Mumbai, injections worth crores of rupees are said to have been given to patients in need so far. As per the information received, 825 black fungus patients have been reported in Mumbai so far, out of which 70 percent have reached the city for treatment from outside Mumbai. If we doctors believe that every patient suffering from this disease needs surgery. There were 384 active patients in Mumbai on June 27, while last Wednesday it has gone up to 169. This means that the number of patients has halved. So far, 139 patients have reportedly come to KEM Hospital here for treatment, out of which 63 are currently admitted. Similarly, 145 to 13 patients are undergoing treatment in JJ, 46 to 22 in Nair, 78 to 24 in Sion, and 42 to 11 in Cooper. All its patients need at least 2 to 3 surgeries and in some cases, the number increases. The best part is that the mortality rate in this disease is very high, but 20 percent of the people in Mumbai have died so far.
