9 BJP MLA left govt in Manipur before Rajya sabha elections

Imphal: The game of BJP which spoiled the political equation of Congress in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh has gone wrong in Manipur. In Manipur, chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh has broken ties with the BJP-led government. The BJP may have to face defeat in the Rajya Sabha seat on Friday along with losing the power of Manipur due to the reverse Operation Lotus of the Congress.

After the 2017 elections, the situation of a hung assembly was made in Manipur, Congress emerged as the single largest party with 28 MLAs, while 21 MLAs of BJP came out. But the BJP formed a government by bringing all the non-Congress MLAs into its fold. The BJP formed a government with 4 Naga People's Front, 4 of NPP, 1 of TMC, 1 of LJP and an independent MLA. The BJP handed over the reins of power to N Biren Singh. The BJP had appointed four NPP MLAs as ministers, including Y Joy Kumar Singh as deputy CM and finance minister.

Elections are to be held on June 19 in a Rajya Sabha seat in Manipur. Three candidates are trying their luck in one Rajya Sabha seat. Among them is the triangular fight between BJP with Titular King Maharaja Sanjaoba Lisimba, former minister Tongbram Mangibabu from Congress and Naga People's Front Honarikui Kashung. A day before the vote, the Congress has spoiled the BJP game in Manipur. The Congress has succeeded in breaking the NPP as well as making a dent in the BJP. The equation of the BJP in the Rajya Sabha elections with the government seems to be deteriorating.
