India's largest paint company, Asian Paints informed on Monday that a fire broke out at the company's paint manufacturing facility in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place in Pudi as the fire ensued to a massive explosion near tanks and caused dense clouds of smoke in the area. It further said that the company is in the process of assessing the extent of the damage. According to the management, there was only an explosion and smoke but no fire. It was brought under control immediately. No casualties have been reported. Several fire tenders reached the spot and deployed immediately into action. Eight fire tenders from the Fire Department, RINL, Laura Labs, HPCL Visakh Refinery, APIIC, and NTPC Simhadri were mobilized to douse the fire. As many as 50 firemen struggled hard by pumping out foam laced with water for over two hours to put out the fire. Media was declined permission to visit the accident spot. According to the management, five of the eight tanks where chemicals were stored, exploded due to the fire and the damage caused in the incident is being estimated close to Rs 1 crore.
