Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday reacted sharply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking if his vote bank was in Karnataka or Pakistan, He said that he does not need a lesson from Mr. Modi on patriotism. “My tears were for the jawan who sacrificed his life for the protection of the country. Not for the reason, Mr. Modi is talking of. He [the PM] should be restrained while making comments on the Opposition in this country,” he said.

In response to the jibes taken at the Mahaghatbandhan and the coalition arrangement in the State, former Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah sought to know how Mr. Modi would describe the coalition arrangement in Bihar and that of his own government at the Centre. “The BJP has an understanding in Bihar with the Janata Dal (United), headed by Nitish Kumar, and the party occupies the post of Deputy Chief Minister. Is it not an alliance? The government is headed by Mr. Modi is an NDA government, not a BJP government as such. Mr. Modi has no moral right to criticize the coalition arrangement in Karnataka,” he said.
He also said Mr. Narendra Modi’s “lies” would boomerang on him and people would understand the falsehoods he uttered one after the other. In the meantime, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge asked PM Modi to learn from former PM Manmohan Singh on maintaining the high standard becoming of the chair of the Prime Minister. “If he (Manmohan Singh) speaks for about 10 minutes, he speaks in a way that brings respect to the post. The way Mr. Modi is speaking does not befit the post he holds,” Mr. Kharge said.
