New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Singh, facing allegations in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in Delhi Excise Policy, appealed to a special court for bail, asserting that the investigation against him had concluded, and his continued detention was unnecessary. Singh's legal representative urged Special Judge MK Nagpal to grant bail, emphasizing that a chargesheet had been filed, rendering his presence in custody superfluous. The counsel stated, "The ED has already filed its chargesheet against me after the completion of the investigation. I'm not required for further custodial interrogation. There is no purpose to keep me in further custody." In response, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) contested Singh's plea, arguing that the investigation was ongoing. They expressed concerns that if the AAP MP were released on bail, he might interfere with the investigation, tamper with evidence, and influence witnesses. During the hearing, the fifth supplementary prosecution complaint against Singh was unveiled, but the court directed it to be kept sealed due to pending decisions regarding the protection of a witness's identity under the Witness Protection Scheme. Earlier in the bail plea hearing, Singh emphasized that he posed no flight risk, had deep community ties, faced no allegations of witness tampering, and had not been accused of interfering in the investigations by either the ED or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for 15 months. He sought bail on these grounds. Singh, currently in judicial custody, was arrested by the ED on October 4. The matter is scheduled for further consideration on December 12.
