Punjab: Senior leader and Rajya Sabha member of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi and Punjab, Raghav Chadha on Thursday hit out at the BJP-led NDA government for failing to prevent rising milk prices. Chadda said that even after knowing about it two years ago, the Centre's failure to address the problem is likely to lead to further increases in milk prices as milk is directly related to fodder prices. MP Raghav Chadha tweeted, 'Milk prices going to rise again? cause? 1. Unabated rise in fodder prices, 2. Due to the spread of the lumpy virus, for some years, farmers are preferring to sow other crops instead of fodder.' He said 'The fodder prices have now reached a 9-year high of 25.54% in August. In Gujarat alone, which is the largest producer of milk, the area under fodder crops has decreased by 1.36 lakh hectares in the last two years.' Raghav Chadha further said that the government had seen the fodder crisis and its impact on farming families two years ago. Therefore, a proposal to set up 100 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) specifically for fodder was prepared by the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in September 2020. Raghav Chadha said, 'The irony is that even after the crisis came to the fore, it was not resolved.'
