The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad seems to have gradually reached a new normal, with domestic operations restarting in a calibrated manner since May 25, and will grow faster than other airports in the country. According to RGIA officials, the footing of passengers in September rose to 20,000 per day in the first few weeks after May 25, which has increased six times. The airport has managed 1.2 million domestic passengers from the day of reopening to September 30. In the first few weeks of re-launching, Hyderabad Air Traffic Movement (ATM) has been increased from 40 daily ATMs to 230 domestic flights per day in September. From May 25 to September 30, 13,500 domestic flights were conducted. The RGI has regained 52 of the Covid Pre-55 destinations, renewing nearly 95 per cent domestic connectivity till August. With a new domestic destination called Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh from September 21, RGII is now connected to 53 destinations in the domestic sector. Nagpur, Mangalore, Kozhikode/ Calicut and Jabalpur are the latest destinations to be retrieved in the last four weeks. The top five destinations of the post-Covid period are Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai.
