Agniveers to get priority in recruitment to police: UP CM

LUCKNOW:: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Wednesday that his government will prioritise 'Agniveers,' soldiers recruited on a short-term contract in the Army, Navy, and Air Force under the special 'Agnipath' scheme.

The Agniveers will be given first preference in recruitment to the state's police and similar agencies. On Tuesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the 'Agnipath programme,' which involves short-term contractual recruitment of personnel in the Army, Navy, and Air Force for a maximum of four years.

"The BJP's double-engine government is dedicated and committed to the upliftment of the youth and to safeguard their future," the Chief Minister added in a tweet. Yogi Adityanath has previously lauded the plan, saying it would usher in a "golden chapter" in Indian military history.
