Islamabad: Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, is facing allegations of food tampering by jail authorities, leading to a deterioration in her health. Currently confined at her Banigala residence, designated as a sub-jail, Bushra Bibi experienced health issues after consuming a meal described as "unusually spicy". Mashal Yousafzai, Bushra Bibi's lawyer and spokesperson, alleged that an acidic chemical substance was intentionally added to the food by the jail authorities. According to Yousafzai, Bushra Bibi developed blisters in her mouth and throat after consuming the meal, rendering her unwell since then. Yousafzai emphasized that Bushra Bibi wishes to inform the nation about this alleged malicious act and its intended harm. Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) accused the "fascist regime" of "maliciously attacking" Bushra Bibi and denying her necessary medical aid. The party asserted that those responsible for these actions would be brought to justice and called for urgent intervention by higher courts. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi received a 14-year jail sentence in the Toshakhana case, which involves the illegal sale of state gifts retained by Imran Khan during his tenure as Prime Minister. Subsequently, they were given an additional seven-year sentence for contracting marriage during the 'Iddat' period. While Imran Khan has been lodged at Adiala Jail, Bushra Bibi recently approached the Islamabad High Court seeking a transfer to the same facility.
