Amit Shah emergency meeting on 'Power Crisis'

New Delhi: The Union Home Minister held a major meeting led by Amit Shah over the deepening power crisis in several sub-sections of The Country. The meeting, which lasted for about an hour and a half, was attended by senior officials of the NTPC including Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi, Energy Minister RK Singh. Home Minister Amit Shah has been provided detailed information on the current situation and coal reserves on behalf of the authorities.

In the meeting convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Coal and Energy Ministers presented a report on coal mining ranging from power production, as well as the situation from secretaries of both the ministries. Several states, including Delhi, Maharashtra and Punjab, have raised the issue of power crisis due to shortage of coal and sought assistance from the Central Government. It has also appealed to the citizens of the state to save electricity. However, it has been clearly stated by the Centre that there are adequate coal reserves in the country and the possibility of a power crisis is not correct.

The coal ministry on Sunday made it clear that there are adequate coal reserves in the country to meet the requirement of the power generating plant. The ministry has completely rejected fears of disruption in power supply due to a shortage of coal. Earlier, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had written to PM Narendra Modi raising the issue of the power crisis.
