Separatist Amritpal Singh Refutes Mother's Statement on Khalistan, Stands Firm on His Beliefs

Chandigarh: On Saturday, July 6th, pro-Khalistan separatist leader and independent MP from Punjab, Amritpal Singh, issued a strong rebuttal to a recent statement made by his mother, Balwinder Kaur. In her statement, Kaur had claimed that Amritpal is not a supporter of Khalistan. Responding to her remarks, Amritpal Singh criticized his mother and reaffirmed his commitment to his cause, stating that the pursuit of Khalsa Raj is a matter of pride, not a crime.

In his statement, Amritpal Singh expressed disappointment over his mother’s comments, suggesting they were made without full awareness of the situation. He stated, “When I learned about Mata Ji’s statement, I felt deeply saddened. I believe she made the statement unknowingly, but such comments should not come from my family or anyone who supports me. Dreaming of Khalsa Raj is not a crime; it is a matter of pride. We cannot step back from the path for which countless Sikhs have sacrificed their lives. If it comes to choosing between the Panth (religion) and my family, I would always choose the Panth.”

Amritpal Singh also admonished his family to avoid any compromise on Sikh principles, emphasizing that such matters should not be publicly discussed. He warned against negligence in future interactions with the congregation.

Earlier on July 5th, while Amritpal Singh was in Delhi to take the oath as a Lok Sabha MP, his mother had addressed the media, asserting that her son was not a Khalistani supporter. She urged the government to release him, stating, “He is not a Khalistani supporter. Speaking about Punjab’s rights and fighting against drug abuse does not make one a supporter of Khalistan. He fought the elections within the framework of the Constitution and took the oath. He will focus on Punjab’s issues and the welfare of its youth.”

Balwinder Kaur highlighted that the main issues during the election were drug abuse and the release of “Bandi Singhs,” a term used for jailed Khalistani Sikhs. Her statement seemed to upset pro-Khalistani supporters who had backed Amritpal Singh in the elections. Kaur later clarified that her remarks were misrepresented by the media, stating, “I mentioned that we won the elections constitutionally and that Amritpal Singh would address other issues. The media misinterpreted my words about Khalistan. They did not cover the real issues faced by Sikhs but twisted my statement.”

Amritpal Singh, currently held in Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act (NSA) for his involvement in the Khalistani movement, was released on a four-day parole to take the oath as MP from Khadoor Sahib. Following the oath ceremony, he was returned to Dibrugarh Jail, subject to conditions including restrictions on entering Punjab and interacting with the media.
