Apologized to SC not BJP or Modi: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: On Saturday, the Congress president said that he apologized to the apex court and not Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the comment. “Process is going on in Supreme Court and I made a comment attributed to SC so I apologized. I did not apologize to BJP or Modi ji. 'Chowkidar chor hai' will remain our slogan,” Gandhi said at a press conference today.

Earlier this week, Abhishek Manu Singhvi tendered an apology in the top court on behalf of the Congress president for misquoting its ruling in the Rafale case. The Congress chief will apologize through a fresh affidavit which will be submitted on April 6, Singhvi had said.

"We admitted that there were three errors in the affidavit. Rahul Gandhi is sorry for misquoting Supreme Court. However, our stance on chowkidar chor hai is firm. Chowkidar is chor, we know this," Singhvi had told reporters after the hearing of the matter.

Earlier, the Rahul Gandhi had submitted a 22-page affidavit to “express regret” for misquoting the Supreme Court order and said that the statement was made in the heat of political campaigning. However, the SC rebuked the Congress chief for the affidavit and said that the 22-page document contradicts itself as it includes “regret and justification, both in the reply”.

Addressing a elections rally in Amethi, RaGa, while referring to Prime Minister Modi had said, “Supreme Court has made it clear that chowkidar ji has committed a theft.”

On April 19, the apex court had said: "We make it clear that views, observations, findings attributed to this court in the alleged speeches, remarks made by Rahul Gandhi to media/public have been incorrectly attributed to this court. We also make it clear that this court had no occasion to make such observation in as much as it was deciding legal admissibility of certain documents which were objected by the attorney general.”
