Kerala: Arif Khan will take oath as Governor today

Trivandrum: Former Union Minister Arif Mohammad Khan, one of the most vocal voices against the three talaq system, will be sworn in as Governor in Kerala today. Arif, who resigned from the then Rajiv Gandhi government on the triple talaq issue, has been very vocal on the issue. He made very serious allegations against the Congress. Arif Mohammad Khan became very close to the BJP on this issue. He also joined the party. But he could not stay for long and left the party.

Khan, who is at the back of politics, came into the discussion again when the current government introduced a bill against triple talaq in Parliament. PM Modi included in his speech the earlier statement made by him during the debate. This has led to speculation that Khan has become close to Modi. There was speculation that he would be sent to the Rajya Sabha. But he was appointed as the governor of Kerala, a strategically important state for the BJP in the south. After resigning from the Rajiv Gandhi cabinet in the eighties, Khan began to play an active role in reforming religious views. The Quran and Contemporary Challenge is among his 2010 bestseller books.

The writings of Arif Mohammad Khan have been voicing continuous improvement. He says that triple talaq is like burying a woman alive in Muslim society. Arif Mohammad hails from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. He became a Lok Sabha MP four times. Khan started his political journey with AMU. He was elected president of Aligarh Muslim School Students Association in 1972-73. In 1971-72, he also contested from Saina assembly constituency Bulandshahar on the ticket of Bharatiya Kranti Dal. He was defeated in this election. In 1977, he again contested on a Janata Party ticket and this time was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and became a minister in the state government.
