Arjen Robben Weighs in on the Messi-Ronaldo Debate

The ongoing debate about who is the greatest footballer between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has received new insights from Dutch football legend Arjen Robben. Having faced both players during his illustrious career, the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea winger shared his thoughts on the topic.

In a recent interview on the TOUZANI YouTube channel, Robben stated that Lionel Messi is the “absolute best ever.” He emphasized that Messi's greatness is not defined by flashy tricks but by his exceptional control, speed, and agility. According to Robben, Messi's ability to perform at high speed with remarkable precision and simplicity distinguishes him from all other players.

Robben's praise for Messi comes after a career spanning two decades, during which he witnessed the remarkable careers of both icons. Messi's rise from a young talent at Barcelona in 2004 to an all-time great is nothing short of extraordinary. He has amassed an impressive list of achievements, including 10 La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, and a World Cup victory with Argentina in 2022. Messi also holds an unprecedented eight Ballon d’Or titles, six European Golden Shoes, and numerous other honors.

On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo's achievements are equally noteworthy. The Portuguese forward has won three Premier League titles and a Champions League with Manchester United, two La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, and experienced success with Juventus in Italy. Now playing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down at 39 years old.

While the Messi-Ronaldo debate often divides fans, Robben's viewpoint strongly favors Messi. He believes Messi's efficiency and dominance on the field, achieved without reliance on flashy moves, solidify his status as the greatest of all time.

At 37, Messi continues to enhance his legacy, recently winning a Leagues Cup and a Supporters’ Shield with Inter Miami. Meanwhile, Ronaldo thrives in Saudi Arabia, consistently adding to his impressive goal tally.

Despite their advancing years, both players remain exceptional talents, but Robben is firm in his belief that Messi's legacy as the greatest player ever is secure.
