Aryna Sabalenka, the world No. 2, continued her dominant form by securing her 15th consecutive victory, defeating Madison Keys 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals of the China Open.
Sabalenka’s winning streak began with her Cincinnati title in August, followed by her U.S. Open triumph in September. Earlier in the year, she also won the Australian Open. Her current streak matches her career-best run of 15 consecutive wins, which she previously achieved during the 2020-2021 seasons.
“When you work hard, make sacrifices, and achieve these wins, it’s the best feeling,” Sabalenka said. “You’re living your best life, excited to play and face whatever challenge comes.”
The Belarusian player has dropped only one set out of the 31 sets she's played during this streak. She lost that set to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third round of the U.S. Open. Against Keys, Sabalenka broke serve early in the first set and dominated the match, improving her head-to-head record against the American to 4-1.
Sabalenka was nearly untouchable on serve, losing only five points on her first serve and saving both break points she faced. Keys, despite hitting 22 winners, couldn't overcome her 10 unforced errors.
Next up, Sabalenka will face Karolina Muchova, who defeated Cristina Bucsa 6-2, 6-0, in the quarterfinals.
In other matches, Gael Monfils advanced to the second round of the Shanghai Masters with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Damir Dzumhur. Monfils will meet 22nd-seeded Sebastian Baez next. Arthur Rinderknech also moved forward, beating Reilly Opelka 6-4, 7-6, while Botic van de Zandschulp secured a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Pablo Carreño Busta. Alexandre Muller staged a comeback to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 against Luca Nardi.
