New Delhi: India secured their fifth Asian Champions Trophy title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over China on September 17, Tuesday. Jugraj Singh scored the decisive goal in the 51st minute, leading India to triumph despite a determined effort from the hosts. India, who had previously defeated China 3-0 in their tournament opener, came into the match as favorites. However, China proved to be a tough opponent, putting the Indian defense under significant pressure throughout the game.

The match began with China applying early pressure, trying to capitalize on counter-attacks. India's first real opportunity came in the opening quarter when Sukhjeet's cheeky shot was saved by the Chinese goalkeeper. India earned their first penalty corner (PC) in the 9th minute, but it was well-defended by China. A subsequent PC for India was missed by Harmanpreet Singh, while China ended the quarter strongly, forcing Krishan Pathak into several saves.

The second quarter was largely uneventful as China focused on defensive tactics to thwart India's advances. India had a significant chance in the 27th minute when Harmanpreet's PC attempt hit the post. A penalty stroke awarded to India for a foul on Manpreet Singh was overturned after a Chinese review, leaving the score tied at 0-0 at halftime.

In the third quarter, India pressed hard with numerous attacks, but China's defense remained resolute. China earned a couple of PCs, but India's defense, led by Pathak, managed to keep them out. Pathak made a crucial save in the 41st minute, and India continued to apply pressure but failed to score.

The final quarter saw India intensify their efforts, breaking the deadlock in the 51st minute. Harmanpreet set up Jugraj Singh for the decisive goal, which proved to be the match-winner. In response, China deployed a flying goalkeeper to increase their attacking options, but the Indian defense held firm, ensuring India's victory. With this win, India reaffirmed their dominance in the tournament, claiming their fifth Asian Champions Trophy title.
