Defence Minister, due to which the country heard the name of 'Surgical Strike'

Today is the 66th birth anniversary of former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who gave a befitting reply to Pakistan's nefarious acts. It was under the leadership of the then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar that the country heard the name of surgical strike for the first time. After the terror attack in Uri, the Indian Army crossed the Line of Control (LoC) through a surgical strike and destroyed terrorist camps in Pakistan.

Known for his simplicity, Manohar Parrikar was known for his strong leadership and efficient administration. He had also credited the Sangh's education for the Indian Army's surgical attack on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok) during his tenure as Defence Minister. In 2000, Parrikar took over the reins of Goa for the first time and became the CM. In 2002, Parrikar again took oath as the Chief Minister. In 2005, Manohar Parrikar's government was reduced to a minority in the Assembly, as four Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs resigned from the House.

In 2007, the Congress-led by Digambar Kamat defeated Parrikar in the Goa elections. The BJP led by Parrikar won the Goa Assembly elections against Congress. Manohar Parrikar was given the charge of the Ministry of Defence in 2014. He replaced Arun Jaitley. Manohar Parrikar once again became the CM of Goa in 2017. Parrikar passed away due to a prolonged illness after assuming office till 2019, the country still misses him.
