New Delhi: 20 years ago, on this day, December 13, 2001, 5 terrorists from Pakistan tried to spray the Parliament House, the holy temple of democracy, with bullets. Today is the 20th full date of that terror attack on the country. On this occasion, tributes will be paid to those 9 brave sons who fought the terrorists by laying down their lives and thwarted their plans to enter the Parliament House from outside.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee had a government in the country at that time and the winter session of Parliament has begun. On the morning of December 13, 5 armed terrorists in a white ambassador car tried to enter the Parliament House building. The white ambassador car in which the terrorists were sitting was hit in a hurry due to a lack of proper knowledge of the gate inside the Parliament House, which made security personnel suspect them.

By the time the security personnel understood this, the terrorists jumped out of the car and opened fire there, after which CRPF soldiers guarding the parliament house also started firing back. Several MPs and ministers were present in the House at that time. While it has been revealed that the then Home Minister L.K. Advani was also in his office in the Parliament complex, which was sent to the room by the security officials and secured and then took over the front.

The terrorists wanted to enter the Parliament premises and attack the leaders and ministers, but due to the promptness of the security forces, they failed and they were the ones who collapsed. However, nine brave soldiers of the country were also martyred while fighting the terrorists. It is also said that heroes like J P Yadav, Matbar Singh, Kamlesh Kumari, Nanak Chand, Rampal, Omprakash, Ghanshyam, Bijendra Singh, Deshraj were martyred while fighting in foiling the attempts to attack the country. News agency ANI cameraman Vikram Singh Bisht was also killed in the terror attack.

The terror attack revealed that its mastermind was Afzal Guru, who has also trained at an ISI camp in Muzaffarabad, Pak occupied Kashmir. He has been given this work by Ghazi Baba of Jaish-e-Mohammed. The investigation also revealed that the five slain terrorists were Pak nationals. After the attack on Parliament, relations between India and Pakistan were strained and war-like conditions had arisen. After all investigations, the Supreme Court convicted Kashmiri terrorist Afzal Guru as the mastermind of the attack on the temple of democracy and sentenced him to death. Afzal Guru was hanged in Tihar jail in Delhi on February 9, 2013.
