New Delhi: Today is the birthday of former Union Minister and BJP veteran Subramanian Swamy, he was born on this day in 1939 in a Hindu Brahmin family of Tamil Nadu. Subramanian Swamy, who is in the news for criticizing his own government, has had a very interesting personal life. A strong supporter of Hindutva, Swamy has married a Parsi girl. This story started when he went to Harvard to study. Here he met a Parsi girl. The girl had come from Mumbai to study Mathematics. At first sight, Swamy started liking that girl. In the meantime, there was going to be a music program of Pandit Ravi Shankar. Swamy tried to sell the girls tickets for this program and gradually the two started growing closer, finally, on June 10, 1966, Subramanian Swamy and Roxana Kapadia got married.

Let us tell you that Subramanian Swamy completed his PhD in Economics from Harvard University at the age of just 24. Prior to this, he took a master's degree in Mathematics from Delhi University. He also studied at the Indian Statistical Institute Calcutta. After completing his studies from Harvard, Swamy started working as a professor at Harvard. He taught economics in the summer session at Harvard until 2011. Swamy taught Mathematical Economics at IIT Delhi from 1969 to the early 1970s, before venturing into politics.

After joining the Sarvodaya movement, Swamy stepped into politics. After this, he was sent to the Rajya Sabha for the first time on behalf of Jana Sangh. He was a Rajya Sabha member from 1974 to 1976. In 1975, when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared an Emergency in the country, at that time a warrant of arrest was issued against Swamy as well. Even after the arrest warrant, Swamy not only attended the session of Parliament, Rather, he also managed to get out of the country in the guise of a Sikh. In 1977, he became a Lok Sabha MP for the first time. He was again elected to the Lok Sabha in 1980. He was a Rajya Sabha member for two terms from 1988 to 1994. He became a Union Minister in the government of Chandrashekhar from 1990 to 91. Swamy was given the additional charge of the Ministry of Law and Justice along with the Commerce Minister. Swamy founded the Janata Dal in 1990. Along with this, Swamy has been a Lok Sabha MP five times from 1974 to 1999. When the Janata Dal was officially established in 1990, he was the president of the party from 1990 to 2013. In 2013, he merged his party with the BJP. At that time Rajnath Singh was the national president of the BJP. After this, in 2016 also Swamy was made a Rajya Sabha MP by the BJP.
