Guwahati: A shocking case of brutal beating to death of a tribal man in Assam has come to light. Five people have been detained so far in the case. The incident is said to have taken place in Assam's Baksa district where a 50-year-old tribal man was allegedly brutally beaten to death by a mob of villagers on Monday. The incident took place in Bogoribari village under Kumarikata police post near Tamulpur, 79 kilometres from the capital Guwahati. Police suspect that the case is related to witchcraft. Five people have been detained so far for questioning in the case. According to police, villagers held a meeting on Monday and accused the man of sorcery (Witchcraft). A group of villagers then allegedly beat the man to death. The villagers also attacked the police team that reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The victim was taken to a government hospital after the incident where he died. Tamulpur sub divisional police officer Aseema Kalita said police have so far taken five persons into custody for questioning, the case will be disclosed soon.
