Guwahati: The National Health Mission (NHM) said 16 people were killed in Assam on Tuesday due to coronavirus, while 929 new cases were reported. With the latest case, the total number of cases of infected in the state has reached 5,76,149. According to NHM, with the death of 2-2 people each in Bongaigaon, Golaghat, Hozai, and Kamrup Metropolitan and one patient each in Dhemaji, Jorhat, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Tinsukia, and Udalguri districts, the death toll has risen to 5,420. NHM said 1,347 more corona patients have lost their lives so far, but the government's Death Audit Board has not included them in covid deaths as they also had other diseases. NHM Daily Bulletin reported that 1,14,152 samples were tested in the state on Tuesday, which revealed 929 patients to be infected. The state recorded a positivity rate of 0.81 percent. On Monday, 1,40,454 samples were tested in the state, with 1,120 people found infected with the virus. At present, there are 9,698 active cases in the state and are being treated in various hospitals and covid care centers (CCCs) across the state, as well as some in-home isolation. According to the report, the highest number of new cases was 155 from Kamrup Metropolitan, followed by Lakhimpur with 85, Barpeta 54, and Golaghat 51. With 5,76,149 COVID-19 cases in Assam, the total positivity rate so far is 2.90 percent as compared to the total testing of 1,98,50,867 samples.
