Guwahati: One kg of golden tip tea from a tea garden in Assam has been auctioned for Rs 99,999 and set a record. The tea was auctioned at guwahati tea auction centre (GTAC) on Tuesday. It is branded as Manohari Gold. The tea from Dibrugarh district was purchased by Guwahati based wholesaler Saurabh T Traders. According to Tea Estate, 'This is the highest price ever received by any tea anywhere in India, any year, in any auction. ' However, Newstracklive does not confirm this claim. CEO of Saurabh Tea Traders ML Maheshwari said, "The demand for this particular tea is very high and the production is very low. Only one kg of tea was auctioned by Manohari Tea Estate this year. He said, 'We have been trying for a long time to buy this tea. The owner of the garden refused to sell us personally and decided to auction it. We were lucky that we finally managed to buy it when it was auctioned. ' In 2018, one kg of tea of the same brand was auctioned at a record price of Rs 39,000. It was bought by Saurabh Tea Traders. A year later, the same company bought the same tea at a price of Rs 50,000 a kilo. Last year, the price of one kg of tea was Rs.75,000 and it was purchased by Vishnu T. Company.
