Assam records 351 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours

With 351 cases reported on the third day of 2022, Assam has seen a double-digit increase in COVID-19 cases. According to Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, 351 cases out of 36,613 tests were reported in the state. With 0.96 percent, the overall positive percentage was below 1%.

There were two fatalities reported, with a recovery rate of 98.63 percent. The overall number of cases on the Kamrup Metro, which mostly serves Guwahati, has doubled, with 164 instances compared to 78 cases the day before. It should be noted that the Assam government began a vaccination programme for students and children aged 15 to 18 years old on Monday. 

Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that the drive is to ensure that all children of the age group 15-18 get vaccinated as soon as possible. He also said that Assam was prepared for COVID-19 and even Omicron as the state already has 9000 beds prepared.Of the 9000, the government has kept 1000 ICU beds while 2600 are dedicated oxygen beds. New SOPs might also be announced if the state records any cases of Omicron.
