Karimganj: A major road accident took place at Karimganj in Assam. The auto-rickshaw was hit by a speeding truck here. Nine persons died in the accident. These include 3 minors. The deceased is said to be returning after performing Chhath Puja. The accident took place at Bastakhal on NH 8 in Karimganj on Thursday morning. Karimganj is a district on the Assam-Tripura border. The deceased was said to be returning from an auto-rickshaw (number AS-01AC-782) after performing Chhath Puja. A police officer of the same Karimganj police station said the auto-rickshaw was hit by a speeding truck. The accident took place in the Bastakhal area of Karimganj. We have received the news that at least nine persons have died in this accident. One body has reached Karimganj Civil Hospital. On the other hand, the highway was jammed after the accident. However, the deceased are yet to be identified. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed grief over the accident. He tweeted, "Deeply mourning the tragic death of 9 people in an accident in Bastakhal Pathrakhandi this morning.'' One of the injured is admitted to the hospital.
