Legendary Indian player banned, sentenced after testing positive for doping

New Delhi: India's star discus throw player Kamalpreet Kaur has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after being tested positive for a banned steroid. Kamalpreet Kaur is one of India's top players in this game and her punishment is a big blow to the country.

Kamalpreet can be suspended for a maximum of four years if found guilty. The World Athletics (Governing Body) tweeted on Wednesday, "AIU has temporarily suspended India's discus throw player Kamalpreet Kaur for the presence/use of a banned substance (Stanozolol) in the body. This substance is a violation of the 'World Athletics' anti-doping rules." World Athletics temporarily suspends a player until the hearing of a doping-related case is over. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is an independent body set up by World Athletics. He has issued a notice to the 26-year-old Punjab player asking her to defend herself.

Kamalpreet Kaur has also performed in the Olympic Games for India in the discus throw. National record holder Kamalpreet had represented the country at the Tokyo Olympics. However, Kamalpreet missed out on the medal and was at number six.
