New Delhi: The Election Commission has banned all public meetings till January 15 for the proposed assembly elections in five states. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra said political parties are instructed to campaign digitally. He said that after reviewing the situation, new instructions will be issued, till then there will be no padyatra, cycle tour or roadshow. Meanwhile, amid the ever-increasing number of corona infection cases, the Election Commission today announced the dates for assembly elections in five states of the country, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra has said that it is very challenging to hold elections during the Corona period. CEC further said that we have worked on holding elections for 6 months. CEC Sushil Chandra said efforts have been made to keep all polling booths completely safe from corona in view of corona infection. Masks, sanitisers and thermal scanners will be arranged at all polling booths during the elections in all five states. Postal ballots will also be used for those over 80 years of age.
