Bangaluru: Bangladeshi Woman Who Stayed As Hindu For 15 Yrs Arrested

Bengaluru: Recently Karnataka Police said that on Friday that they had detained a 27-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant lady who had been living in India for 15 years while masquerading as a Hindu, based on information from the Foreigners Regional Registration of India (FRRO) on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Roni Begum, a Bangladeshi woman who was detained, has been recognised as Payal Ghosh is her new name, and she is married to Mangaluru-based delivery executive Nithin Kumar. The police have initiated an investigation into Nithin's disappearance. The lady was apprehended after a three-month search operation, according to the police.

Roni Begum snuck into India when she was 12 years old and went on to work as a dancer in a Mumbai nightclub. She claimed to be a Bengali and changed her name to Payal Ghosh.

At the time, she had fallen in love with Nithin and married him. In 2019, they moved to Bengaluru's Anjananagar neighbourhood after their marriage. Roni used to work as a tailor. When the couple was in Mumbai, they were able to obtain a PAN card, and Nithin was able to obtain an Aadhaar card with the aid of a friend in Bengaluru.

Roni had decided to travel to Bangladesh to attend her father's funeral. She flew to Kolkata and planned to travel to Dhaka from there. Her passport was taken by immigration officers when they became suspicious of it. She was advised not to travel to her homeland. It was found later in the inquiry that she is an illegal immigrant.

By that time, she had returned to Bengaluru, and the FRRO had alerted the Bengaluru Police Commissioner of Roni's whereabouts. A case has been filed in this respect by the Byadarahalli police. According to DCP West Sanjeev Patil, an inquiry is underway to track down those who assisted her in obtaining her PAN card, Aadhar card, and voter's ID.
